Faith communities have a critical role to play.

There are 400,000 houses of worship in the United States.

Only 5% regularly monitor their energy usage.
Just 1% have installed solar systems.

What happens if 50% of worship facilities achieve baseline clean, equitable energy stewardship by 2025?
Join us and find out.

I'm interested. How do I get started?

Our program matches you with students to establish your energy and climate baseline and get ready to take next steps. We can provide other resources to help you turn your values into concrete goals and measurable outcomes. Our goal? By 2025, engage 50% of US congregations to lead by example in their worship facilities and campus buildings. This can prevent millions of metric tons of carbon emissions, expand solar adoption, save money on utility bills, and contribute to community resilience while also improving the comfort and safety of worship facilities, schools, offices, and community centers.

Why faith communities?

Faith communities are significant potential leaders in clean energy transitions, with underrealized potential for impact.  As a sector, faith communities are diverse and inclusive: more than 200 spiritual traditions, 400,000 houses of worship, 250 million members (80% of the US population), and 4 billion square feet of built area. Many congregations have interests in “going solar” to align with their strong stewardship values and active commitments to climate action, but only 770 (less than 1%) of all US worship facilities have installed solar and fewer than 6,000 (less than 5%) regularly monitor their energy usage.  In the clean energy marketplace, faith communities face some challenges. Their energy projects tend to be smaller and require more technical assistance than average projects, and they may not be well-suited for conventional financing. This makes them more costly and less lucrative for private sector developers, leaving faith communities under served. SEEK leverages partnerships, engagement, innovation and research to explore and empower the potential for substantial aggregate impact.
